Happy 100th day of school!

To celebrate the 100th day of school, which seems to keep on being pushed back because of snow days, the students and I wanted to do something different.  I also wanted them to do something meaningful, that made them think.  We started talking about the meaning of a bucket list, and some of them already knew what it was.  They had learned about them last year, which was great.

We calculated that if each student wrote 6 things that he or she wanted to do or achieve by the end of his or her life, and I wrote 4, then we would have 100 items on our class bucket list.

We started by making a word bank of different ways to begin each sentence in our list.  Once this was done, I noticed that the students were producing some of their clearest, most grammatically correct writing!

I was very pleased to see that even some of my students that are a little more challenging to engage were putting forth lots of effort and enjoying the work.

We also worked on our shading through the use of blending, hatching and cross-hatching in art.  So our writing looked nice on the school walls when we posted it!  Check out some pictures!
